Our Story (The Short, Slightly Chaotic Version)
We didn’t move abroad to relax—we moved abroad and immediately discovered we’re terrible at relaxing.
Back in September 2022, while the UK was having a historic moment, we were having one of our own: selling everything, stuffing our lives into a car, and dragging our Shih Tzu duo, Kiki and Alfie, across eleven borders on a week-long road trip. As you do.
Turkey: Sunshine, Hospitality, and More Dogs Than Planned
We landed in Altinkum and spent three years learning that Turkish people can out‑kind anyone on Earth. We also had to say a heartbreaking goodbye to Kiki and Alfie. Naturally, we coped the only way we know how—by adopting two more dogs. Enter Scruffy and Poppet, professional chaos coordinators.
Why Bulgaria? Honestly… Why Not
When life in Turkey got tricky for expats, we packed the car again and headed for Bulgaria. The moment we saw our house in Kovachevets, we just knew. Opening a B&B wasn’t the plan—we just can’t sit still long enough to be normal homeowners.
The Accidental B&B
We renovated, decorated, wrangled two dogs and five chickens, and somewhere along the way… boom. We had a B&B. Apparently this is what happens when restless people buy a big house.
What’s Next
No idea. Truly none. But the rooms are ready, the chickens are laying, and we’re excited to welcome guests into our wonderfully unpredictable little world.
